READING DAY is October 8th

FOCUS on READING DAY
     at Bay Elementary

 Students will enjoy a day focused on reading and literature including an  opportunity for every child to hear guest authors read their own books and tell how they developed a love for reading and writing.  We are bringing literature to life!!!!

Guest authors will include:

 John Hollan, resides in Santa Rosa Beach

“The Adventure of the Starfish Family”

Part of The Artists at Gulf Place
 
Kay Heath, resides in Georgia and is a former 2nd Grade teacher
“Ida Clair” series and more for children ages 2-7
Sue Higginbotham, resides in Navarre, FL
“Getting to Know Raccoon Ray”
“Jumbo of the Ole Swimming Hole” and more children’s books

Authors will have booths set up on the stage and students will have the opportunity to visit the Author’s booths to see the many published books.  Students may bring money to purchase an autographed book during their classrooms visit to the Author’s booths if you would like.     Booths will be open after dismissal should parents want to join their child to visit Author’s booths.   Most books range $5-$25

Santa Rosa Beach, Walton County Coastal Library, will be hosting a “trunk to treat” children’s costume party parade on Thursday, Oct 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Parents are invited to decorate their car trunks from their favorite children’s story, poem or book for example, “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “The Five Little Pumpkins” or spooky holiday theme of their choice and hand out candy for the children.  In honor of Fire Prevention month, Fireman Sammy will teach about fire prevention, fire equipment and teach the mechanics of the fire engine beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the costume parade beginning at 10:30. These 2 special events are being held during our regularly scheduled “Preschool Class- Story hour” that meets Thursdays, 10:00 – 11:00 am. Dad's Day & Donuts!

The Florida Department of Education announced in August a new intiative that encourages fathers to become more involved in the education of their children as a means of increasing student achievement with "Dads Take Your Child to School Day" on Wednesday, Sept 30th, across the state of Florida.  Therefore, on Wednesday, September 30th, we welcome fathers to bring their children to school and join us for donuts!  

Bay Boosters is supporting this event be providing donuts for all students and fathers who are able to join us.   Times are as follows:

7:55 Kindergarten & 2nd Grade

8:25  3rd Grade

8:55 4th Grade

9:25 1st Grade
