Achievement or Proficiency is a point-in-time measure that evaluates how well students perform against a standard. In contrast, progress is measured by how much "growth"students make over time, typically from one year to the next. Both of these measures are important, but they provide different information. Current data shows students at Bay Elementary are progressing as they should to ensure growth.
Based on STAR Reading and Math, our data is looking good for 2018-19. The graph shows the percentage of students in each grade level who are scoring on or above grade level. Children to "learn to read" in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and "read to learn" from 3rd grade forward. Curriculum really begins to change in second grade to more abstract and becomes more challenging for students. Please continue to READ, READ, READ with your children everyday and support learning at home.
If you have questions or concerns about your child's academic performance, please schedule an appointment with your child's teacher or contact Mrs. Spence at 850-622-5050 ext 2110.
