The Accelerated Reader program is a computerized program that testsreading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level.
Bay Elementary School participates in the Accelerated Reader program. Media Specialist Heather O'Toole coordinates the schoolwide program and supports teachers with classroom implementation. The program provides incentives and rewards in the classroom as well as schoolwide to encourage students to READ, READ, READ! During the 2015-16 school year, Bay students read and successfully test with an 80% or above over 14,000 books which is an average of 36 books per student! We want to beat this reading record in 2016-17!
Just Read, Florida!
Join students all across Florida as they take on the Summer Literacy Adventure Challenge and pledge to read every day. Set a personal goal, work to accomplish it and strive for success!
Florida’s students are being challenged to pledge to read as many books as possible throughout the summer break. Each student can fill out his or her pledge at Summer Literacy Pledge. Following the summer break, the department will recognize the top 10 schools with the highest percentage of participation. The school whose students read the most books will receive a surprise visit from First Lady Ann Scott.
